BIOGRAPHY

Sonia Bhamra is an award winning, multi-disciplined visual artist from Birmingham, U.K. She graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree from Birmingham City University. She uses the photographic medium to create visual metaphors that address social and environmental issues. Her inspiration stems from contemporary situations, which she further explores, and creates new ways to view the world in its current climate, inviting the viewer to look at the world as it is but from another point of view.

In 2019 Sonia was selected as 1 of 8 contestants, chosen from 7000 applicants across Europe, (U.K, Italy, Germany, Ireland and Austria) to be part of the largest photography competition for Sky Arts Master of Photography 2019. Sky Arts Master of Photography 4

“I define my art as painting with photography, creative and conceptual storytelling in a documentary way. My work is inspired by conceptualism and surrealism which often centres themes that I feel need awareness, such as anthropological stressors on the planet and global social challenges. I am interested in communicating topics that we may have become desensitised too, in new and compelling ways. I believe when art is aligned to a certain cause then it becomes a visual arm to bring about change”
